On Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 2 p.m., the Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum will present an illustrated program and book signing entiltled The Civil War in Pennsylvania: A Photographic History. The book is the first photo history of the war in the Keystone State, and most of the images have never been published. They are drawn largley from private collectors, including coauthor Kenneth C. Turner, who has amassed thousands of rare images during the past 30 years.

The Keeping Kids Safe Project will take a child’s fingerprints and send them home with parents. Parents can use the record to turn directly over to authorities anywhere in the world to instantly aid in an investigation. There will also be community organizations present to provide safety information and entertainment for families. The Bill Howerton Inaugural Strikeout Cancer Weekend (Benefit - Fundraiser)

Location: PNC Field

The Bill Howerton Inaugural Strikeout Cancer Weekend will be held April 13th and 14th at the newly renovated PNC Field, home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the AAA affiliate of the New York Yankees. Local high school and college baseball teams will play games throughout the weekend. The fun kicks off on Saturday at 11 AM at PNC Field with North Pocono High School versus Pocono Mountain East followed by Keystone College versus Marywood University at 2 PM. Admission is free. There will be raffles and donation buckets as funds raised during the event will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The event will honor Bill Howerton, who coached the University of Scranton for 16 seasons as well as the Scranton Red Soxx for 11 seasons. Howerton passed away unexpectedly in August due to complications resulting from cancer.

On Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., the Binghamton High School ‘Juice Blenders’ will present a STEEL DRUM BAND CONCERT in the newly renovated Montrose Theatre, Public Avenue,Montrose, PA under the direction of Joel R. Smales. This band was formed in 1999 and has been invited to many festivals and contests on the East Coast. Please plan to attend this concert with a Caribbean theme.
