Andrew Lawrence American Legion Post 644, 259 Shoemaker St., Swoyersville is sponsoring a dinner dance to benefit Candy’s Place on May 19.. The event will feature Elvis Tribute artist, Andy Svrcek. THE! BIG! HOT! CHILI COOK-OFF, sponsored by Peace Lutheran Church; Association of Lutheran Friends and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will take place Saturday, May 19, 2012 starting at 11:00am ‘til 2:00pm at Peace Lutheran Church 2506 N. Main Avenue and the corner of Parker Street in Scranton. Donations benefit The North Scranton Bread Basket Food Pantry. Cook-off judges will be Dave DiRienzo from the Morning Show Rock 107, The 2012 Class Vice President of the Culinary Arts & Hospitality at Lackawanna College and Pastor Cyril D. Edwards, Mary, Mother of God Parish, Scranton. Local restaurants in the cook-off are Texas Road House Dickson City, Farley’s Steak & Seafood House downtown Scranton, Chick’s Diner of Scranton, Stinky’s Chili Scranton, Anna Maria’s Restaurant Dunmore and Jack’s Draft House Scranton. The event comes with a People’s Choice Award, Top Chef’s Awards, Door Prizes.
